Set of 6 Laguiole Steak Knives
These Laguiole steak knives come six to a set, every one handmade in France by Laguiole en Aubrac. They are French steak knives made for the dinner table, for cutting into a ribeye, a strip steak or a pork chop. Choose one material for every knife, or a mixed set where each guest’s knife has a handle of its own.
A Laguiole steak knives set of 6 covers a full table, and it pairs with the Set of 6 Laguiole Dinner Forks, offered in the same handles. To get knives and forks together in one purchase, see the Laguiole 12-Piece Flatware Set, which puts a dinner fork beside each of the six knives. For a smaller table, there is the Set of 4 Laguiole Steak Knives or the Set of 2 Laguiole Steak Knives. Look at any blade of these Laguiole en Aubrac steak knives and you’ll see who made them.

Wood handle steak knives in olive or juniper, plus buffalo horn
Among the wood handle steak knives here, olive wood and juniper look quite different side by side, and they are two of many woods in this range. Olive wood shows warm honey tones and dark streaks beneath its satin finish, and its color deepens with time. Juniper, also satin, is paler, and its small knots mean no two knives match exactly. If you prefer horn, buffalo horn gets a glossy black polish that makes a striking contrast with white china. All three are also offered with hand-chiseled double plates, the most elaborate version in the Laguiole en Aubrac range. To see what that involves, read Laguiole Double-Plates Knives.

Choosing the best French steak knives
When you compare the best French steak knives, start with who made them. Since the Laguiole name has no legal protection, factory-made knives often carry it, so check the blade: these are marked Laguiole en Aubrac. Then choose how the six should look: one material across the set, or a mixed set of woods or horns. Finally, decide between the satin finish of woods such as olive and juniper and the polish of horn. If you're comparing high-end steak knives, give priority to ones made by hand in France.
Set of 6, 4 or 2?
A 6-piece steak knife set makes sense for a household that hosts. It covers a table of six, and it lines up with the dinner forks, also sold in sets of six. Four knives suit a smaller family, and two make sense for a couple or for filling out an older set. Many of the same handles, olive wood, juniper and buffalo horn among them, are offered in all three sizes, so you can match a pair to the six you already own.
Laguiole steak knife questions
Which Laguiole steak knives are the best?
Since every set here is handmade in France by Laguiole en Aubrac, the best one is the handle you'll enjoy at every meal. Olive wood and juniper give a warm satin look, buffalo horn a glossy black. For the most elaborate version, choose a set with hand-chiseled double plates. A mixed set gives each Laguiole steak knife its own handle.
How many steak knives do I need?
One for each person you usually seat at the table, plus a couple for guests. A set of six covers a family of four with room for visitors, or a full table of six. If you rarely host, four knives may be enough, and a pair can fill out a set that's short a knife or two.
Can you put steak knives in the dishwasher?
Not if they have wood or horn handles. Wash them by hand, then dry them right away, since a dishwasher's heat and standing water dull them over time. A quick wash after the meal is enough, and olive wood, juniper and buffalo horn keep their look for longer when they stay out of the machine.
Each order comes with care instructions for the handles. Between meals, keep the six together in a drawer or block where the blades won't knock against other cutlery.
