Laguiole Flatware Sets

Each of these Laguiole flatware sets is handcrafted in France, piece by piece, at Laguiole en Aubrac. Every place setting has matching handles, from knife to spoon. They are French flatware for the whole table, for six people at once or for one guest at a time. You can have one wood or horn at all six places, or a mixed set, in which each place has its own.

Choose the set that fits how you eat. With the Laguiole 12-Piece Steak Knife & Fork Sets, you get six steak knives with six dinner forks, for steak dinners and everyday meals. With the Laguiole 24-Piece Flatware Sets, each of six guests has a knife, dinner fork, soup spoon and dessert spoon. For one guest, the Laguiole 5-Piece Place Settings include a knife, a fork, a soup spoon, a dessert spoon and a dessert fork. And the Laguiole 28-Piece Flatware Sets contain those same 24 pieces plus a two-piece carving set and a two-piece cheese set, all with matching handles.

Handles on this flatware range from olive wood and ebony to zebu horn tip. Every set up to 24 pieces comes in an oak box, with two trays for the 24-piece one, while the 28-piece set has a black case lined with soft fabric. You may know this flatware as Laguiole silverware, a Laguiole cutlery set or French cutlery. Whatever you call it, the name to check is the one marked on the blade: Laguiole en Aubrac.

Wood handle flatware or zebu horn tip?

In wood handle flatware, olive wood comes in a satin finish, its honey color veined in brown, warm against a white tablecloth. Ebony is polished to a deep black and looks crisp beside white porcelain. Zebu horn tip, polished like the ebony, has blond or amber flames set in browner horn and is sometimes translucent. All three come in each of the four formats, 5-piece place setting included, so a single place setting can match a set for six.

How to set silverware on a table

Put the fork on the left of the plate and the knife on the right, blade facing the plate, with the soup spoon farther out. The dessert spoon lies horizontally above the plate, and in a 5-piece place setting the dessert fork lies just below it, facing the other way. Guests start with the outermost piece and work in. A 24-piece set covers six places with a knife, fork, soup spoon and dessert spoon, and the 28-piece set adds carving pieces for the host and cheese pieces for the board.

Flatware set for 6: which one fits your table?

Already have spoons? The 12-piece set adds what is missing: steak knives and dinner forks. Starting from an empty drawer? The 24-piece set covers six places in one purchase. Hosts who carve a roast or bring out cheese after the main course should pick the 28-piece set, which adds both serving sets with matching handles. With the 5-piece place settings, you build a table one guest at a time, or add a seventh place to a set for six.

Your Laguiole flatware questions

Why is Laguiole flatware worth it?

Because genuine Laguiole en Aubrac pieces are handcrafted in France, one by one, while the name also appears on many factory-made sets. Every place setting shares one handle material, from knife to spoon. Each set comes in an oak box or a fabric-lined black case, with a numbered certificate.

What is flatware?

Flatware is the knives, forks and spoons laid at each place. In the United States the word covers everyday sets as well as silver ones, and many people say silverware for the same thing. Laguiole en Aubrac produces it in sets of 12, 24 or 28 pieces for six people, or 5 pieces for one.

Is Laguiole flatware dishwasher safe?

Not when the handles are wood or horn: those pieces are not for the dishwasher. Wash each piece by hand and towel it dry right away, after the meal, then return it to its box or case. You will find the same advice in the care leaflet included with every set.

Every set is shipped in its oak box, or in the black case for the 28 pieces, with the care leaflet inside. Between meals, that is the place to keep the pieces.
