About wenge wood:

A unique and stunning wood, wenge is marked by chocolate brown and slightly lighter streaks that give it an unusual appearance. Wenge is light in weight and makes a great wood for decorative items.

The heartwood is medium brown, sometimes reddish with almost black streaks. Its grain is hollow and airy resulting in no smooth handles like ebony or amourette.

It is a relatively large tree of the forests of West and Central Africa: it measures about thirty meters, sometimes more, for 1 m in diameter. The bole is straight, covered with a grayish bark which exudes a red liquid when it is notched.
